Applications are invited from graduate and undergraduate students from Physics, Chemistry, Material Sciences,
and Electrical Engineering disciplines for international research experience in Nanoscale science and technology.
The National Science Foundation sponsored IRES (International Research Experience for Students) program at
the University of North Texas provides opportunity to US graduate and undergraduate students to join research
projects for the summer.  This program will allow students to experience first-hand research experience in
nanotechnology in Japanese Universities.  The students will spend 7-8 weeks at the University of Tsukuba,
Japan or Shimane University to work in the area of semiconductor nanostructures, optoelectronics, photonic
structures, colloidal quantum dots, DNA based molecular electronic devices.  The award will support students
for 7-08 week summer research experiences in Japan.  Each year students from graduate and undergraduate
level will be selected.  The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science will support additional aspects of the
student and faculty exchange program between UNT and the University of Tsukuba and Shimane University.
University of Tsukuba, which is close to Tokyo, is one of the top-ranked research Universities in Japan to pursue
research in nanotechnology.  Shimane University, which is the other center for international research exchange
is located in Matsue city on the Japan sea-coast.

Eligibility:  The program is open to students who have a serious interest in nanotechnology and prior research
experience.  Graduate students will be in any stage of their research program, while most undergraduate students
will have completed their junior year, although talented

The University of North Texas will make necessary travel arrangements for the trip to Japan.  Participants have
travel expenses covered (airfare, lodging, visa, health insurance) and receive a stipend.
To
complement the research experience, we organize enrichment activities, as well as cultural and recreational field
trips.  Activities are conducted in English and no prior knowledge of Japanese is necessary.
